1962 Copeland Spode 'Pacifico' White Alenite Salad/Dessert Plate (8.75in) - COPESPODE-PL2

Dating from 1962 here is a salad or dessert plate in the fabulous 'Pacifico' pattern from Copeland Spode. Made from white alenite, a specially developed flameproof pottery in production only for a short time (introduced in 1960 and discontinued in 1966). This particular pattern 'Pacifico' was introduced in 1962 but didn't appear in the last alenite 1966 catalogue so had an even shorter production run. In absolutely beautiful condition it looks unused and is an extremely fine quality piece of dinnerware. Marked to the base with 'Copeland Spode, England, Pacifico S.3382' (we have six of these for sale separately - price given is for one plate). SIZE: Diameter 8.75in/22.5cm Weight 350g

CONDITION: Beautiful clean and undamaged condition - no chips, cracks or hairlines and minimal surface wear, it looks completely unused.

Midwinter Potteries, established in Burslem, Stoke on Trent in 1910, had just 20 years later grown to be one of the largest potteries in England employing hundreds of staff. Like a lot of established English potteries it eventually ceased trading in the 1980's and as a result Midwinter pottery items now enjoy a huge surge of interest with prices for what are now considered the more significant designs steadily increasing and showing no signs of slowing down.

Our particular interest in Midwinter lie lie in the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's and in particular in the designs of the legendary Jessie Tait (responsible for the highly collectable Zambesi and Primavera ranges amongst others and who was responsible for the majority of Midwinter designs having worked there for nearly 30 years) as well as Terence Conran, John Russell and Hugh Casson - all of whom designed now highly sought after ranges for Midwinter Pottery.
