1960's/70's Staffordshire Potteries Ltd 'Weston' Large Side Plate by Elayne Fallon - STAFF-PLATE-EF2

£12.00

Dating from the 1960's or thereabouts here is a groovy ironstone large side plate from the Staffordshire Potteries and decorated in the 'Weston' pattern designed by Elayne Fallon consisting of purple, turquoise, green and light blue daisy/Mary Quant type flowers.  The pattern extends around the rim of the plate and is very flower-power in inspiration - a really lovely item so indicative of the period in which it was manufactured that looks amazing on display but is robust enough to be used for it's original purpose.  Fully marked to the base with 'Staffordshire Potteries Ltd, WESTON, designed by Elayne Fallon IRONSTONE Made in England'.  (We have two of these for sale individually).  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

SIZE:   Diameter 9in/23cm   Weight 480g (av.)

CONDITION:  Lovely original condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines - there is crazing to the central plain section of the plate and on the reverse there are unglazed marks where the plate would have sat in the kiln during firing (original to manufacture).  Nothing significant but mentioned for accuracy.

Retro Ceramics - British

Midwinter Potteries, established in Burslem, Stoke on Trent in 1910, had just 20 years later grown to be one of the largest potteries in England employing hundreds of staff. Like a lot of established English potteries it eventually ceased trading in the 1980's and as a result Midwinter pottery items now enjoy a huge surge of interest with prices for what are now considered the more significant designs steadily increasing and showing no signs of slowing down.

Our particular interest in Midwinter lie lie in the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's and in particular in the designs of the legendary Jessie Tait (responsible for the highly collectable Zambesi and Primavera ranges amongst others and who was responsible for the majority of Midwinter designs having worked there for nearly 30 years) as well as Terence Conran, John Russell and Hugh Casson - all of whom designed now highly sought after ranges for Midwinter Pottery.

We are very pleased to be able to offer you a selection of what we consider to be some of the best Midwinter Pottery, Ironstone and other Staffordshire ceramics designs from the latter half of the 20th century.
