Retro Ceramics - British

Poole Pottery was established in 1873 and until recently was still operating from it's original location, with an historic in-house museum, near Poole Harbour in Dorset. Recently however the pottery was relocated nearby and dramatically downsized with the museum sadly being broken up and sold.

Our particular interest in Poole Pottery lie in the 1950's designs of Robert Jefferson, Guy Sydenham, Ruth Pavely and Afred Read; the 1960's psychedelic Delphis range and Leslie Elsden's slightly more subtle Aegean range. With the amazing trademark shapes, colourful glazes, textures and patterns and thanks in part to the work of the now legendary paintresses Carol Cutler and Diana Davies to name just two, Delphis in particular has remained hugely popular today. With most Poole Pottery items bearing the moniker of the paintress it is usually fairly simple to identify the year of manufacture as well as the identity of the paintress - with items from the late 1960's being particularly sought after and collected.

We are very pleased therefore to be able to offer you a selection of what we consider to be some of the best Poole Pottery ceramics designs from the latter half of the 20th century.
