1960s Thomas (Germany) 15 Piece Porcelain Coffee Set - THOMAS-COFFEE1

£95.00

You can't get a lot funkier than this - a fantastic Thomas (Germany) coffee set dating from the 1960s.  It consists of a coffeepot and lid, sugar bowl and lid, cream jug, five cups and five saucers (15 pieces in all) in a fabulous retro shape and pattern.  The coffee pot, sugar bowl, cream jug and the saucers are all in what I can only describe as an almost irridescent dark brown glaze - it has a really unusual sheen like an oil glaze and is not a flat colour.  The cups are white but with a fabulous pattern around them in brown - so indicative of the period of manufacture.  Thomas were a division of Rosenthal and as you can imagine these are exactly the quality one would expect from such names - fab retro styling and superb quality! Marked to the base with 'Thomas Germany'.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

CONDITION:  Lovely original condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines.  A lovely set indeed.

OVERSEAS BUYERS: Please note that with packaging this item weighs over the Royal Mail 2kg threshold, therefore overseas buyers will need to contact us in advance of checkout for an exact postage price to your area (free postage to UK addresses still applies).

Retro Ceramics - West German/Swiss/Austrian

Rosenthal porcelain was established in Bavaria in 1879 by Philip Rosenthal. However, when his son Philip Rosenthal Jnr took over in the 1950’s the direction of Rosenthal was set on an entirely different path to become what we know it today – stylish, sophisticated and avantgarde. Scandinavian designers including Bjorn Wiinblad, Timo Sarpaneva, Tapio Wirkkala, Piero Fornasetti and Henry Moore amongst others were brought in to create fabulous new shapes and designs and in 1961 the now famous Studio-Line range was launched.

Thomas Porcelain, founded in 1903 but taken over by Rosenthal in 1908, bore it’s own backstamp making no mention of it’s Rosenthal connection but was equally stylish and cutting-edge. With many and varied ranges of tablewear also using leading designers Thomas stamped porcelain is equally collectable and sought after today.

We intend to bring the best of both Rosenthal and Thomas porcelain to our customers – from sophisticated, stylish and avantgarde to funky, flower-power and downright psychedelic – they’ve manufactured a design for everyone and it all sits very comfortably here in Pips Trip.
