SOLD POTTERY ARCHIVES : British Pottery 2 : Lotus Pottery (Devon) Rare Stylised Bird Posy Vase

SOLD

The Lotus Pottery was set up in 1958 by Michael and Elizabeth Skipworth in the village of Stoke Gabriel in Devon and was famous during the 1960's and 1970's for their green daisy range of vases and stylised animals - most notably bulls.  This is a rare dark glazed stylised bird posy vase - the glaze is a difficult to describe dark brown/black colour with a very slightly irridescent sheen - I've not seen another Lotus vase like it in this shape or colour - this is a very unusual and extremely sweet item of retro studio pottery.  Fully stamped to the base with 'Stoke Gabriel, Lotus, S Devon'.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

SIZE:  Height 3.25in/8cm    Length from nose to tail  4in/10cm    Weight  194g
