This is an unusually large square Italian ceramic plaque in the San Marino style of a very high gloss glazed finish colourfully decorated with a stylised sailing ship in white sgraffito on a bright red splashy ground and edged with a fantastically crusty lava/volcanic glaze.  This dates from the 1960s judging from the style of decoration which is typical for the period.  Not marked to the reverse - just a plain matt black glaze as is usual for these pieces.
