 Item code: CARSTENS-1273 |
1960s Carstens (Austria) Blue Lava Vase |
Dating from the 1960s or thereabouts here is a very decorative little ceramic vase from the West German ceramics manufacturer, Carstens. For a time Carstens used the Goldscheider factory in Austria to produce some of their items which is why some, like this, are marked with Austria to the base and not West Germany. Glazed with patches of blue and green with a dark lava glaze over the top. Marked to the base with '1273-13 MADE IN AUSTRIA'. Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups. SIZE: Height 5in/13cm Weight 375g CONDITION: Lovely original condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines.

1970s Gerold Porzellan (Germany) Red Glazed Vase |
This is a great vase - bright white porcelain glazed with a beautifully smooth red glaze (white rim and base) in what I can only describe as the shape of a large Smartie. A nice decorative little vase from an interesting age of German design. Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups. SIZE: Height 3.75in/9.5cm Weight 445g CONDITION: Nice original condition with no cracks or hairlines - there is, however, a tiny nick to the base (shown at the 12 o'clock position on the base photograph). This is insignificant, in my opinion, but mentioned for accuracy and has been reflected in the price.

Rare 1960s Otto Keramik (West Germany) Red and Black Lava Glazed Vase |

Dating from the 1960s here is a fantastic large (9.5 inches in height) lava glazed vase from Otto Keramik designed by the legendary Otto Gerharz and Kurt Tschorner. It looks incredible on display - this is the vase that pretty much epitomises the term 'Fat Lava'. With a red drippy base topped off with thick bubbly black lava, the interior a pale turquoise glaze and with the customary felt base (blue). Groovy! Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups. SIZE: Height 9.5in/24.5cm Weight 1460g CONDITION: Great original condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines. Rare HUGE 1960s Otto Keramik (West Germany) Red and Black Lava Glazed Floor Vase |
Dating from the 1960s here is an incredible lava glazed floor vase from Otto Keramik designed by the legendary Otto Gerharz and Kurt Tschorner. This matches the vase above however at 19 inches it's almost twice the height and weighs a staggering 6470g! I've personally never seen such a huge piece of Otto Keramik - this is, in my opinion, the Big Daddy of Fat Lava! Fully hand-made, as above, very few would have been produced which, combined with its size, makes this an extremely rare and desirable vase. It looks breathtaking on display - with a red drippy gloss glazed base topped off with chunky, bubbly black lava and a dark blue glazed interior. Someone has at some point picked off the felt that would have been on the base (presumably to see if the vase was marked in any way and not realising that the felt was an original feature). Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups. SIZE: Height 19in/48cm Weight 6470g CONDITION: Great original condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines. OVERSEAS BUYERS: Please note that with packaging this item weighs very nearly 10kg, therefore overseas buyers will need to contact us in advance of checkout for an exact postage price to your area (free postage to UK addresses still applies).
