1960s/70s Blue Cascade Glass Piggy Bank
1960s/70s Blue Cascade Glass Piggy Bank

SOLD

What a lovely little piggy bank!  Made by the now defunct glass makers, Cascade, in a vibrant blue glass it's a very decorative item and would make a brilliant gift.  Cascade Glass we now know were also responsible for producing some of the smaller uncased gulvvases for the Danish glass manufacturer Holmegaard who outsourced several items to Cascade during the 1960s/1970s.  It bears a resemblance to the Bang/Holmegaard piggy banks - the difference being that the Holmegaard piggies have little knobbles on them - it's possible that the Holmegaard piggies may also have been produced under licence by Cascade, but this has not yet been confirmed or otherwise.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

This type of Chance glass is fabulously funky and is, in our opinion, amongst the best designs that Chance produced during the 1970s - they would have been hugely fashionable at the time.  This particular dish is oblong in shape with a curved and gilded rim and with their psychedelic flowery 'Canterbury' pattern screenprinted on the reverse in orange - it matches a circular plate we also have for sale.  We think these are brilliant, this is a scarce Chance pattern and a must for any serious retro and/or Chance glass collector.  Please see all photographs for alternative views or close-ups.

1969 Dartington Glass Kingfisher Blue 'Nipple Vase' by Frank Thrower
1969 Dartington Glass Kingfisher Blue 'Nipple Vase' by Frank Thrower

SOLD

This is a great item with a racy provenance!  Designed in 1969 by Frank Thrower for Dartington Glass the raised surface design of what look at first glance like daisy type flowers is actually based on the human nipple - hence the name 'Nipple Vase' and it was considered a highly controversial and x-rated item at the time.  It's mould blown and in their beautiful Kingfisher Blue glass colourway - this is the larger size (pattern no: FT95).  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.
