1967 Caithness Glass Smoked & Clear Glass Bowl designed by Domhnall O'Broin
1967 Caithness Glass Smoked & Clear Glass Bowl designed by Domhnall O'Broin

SOLD

We particularly like these Domhnall O'Broin designs for Caithness - the shape of these have such a groovy space-aged shape and the smoked glass of the bowl is so typical of the late 1960's.  Thickly encased in clear glass (the base is 1in/2.5cm thick) it's quite a large size (we also have a smaller version) and is a heavy item which looks fantastic on display, particularly in contemporary interiors where it looks very much at home!  This is unsigned but unmistakeably O'Broin for Caithness.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

1969 Dartington Glass Kingfisher Blue 'Nipple Vase' by Frank Thrower
1969 Dartington Glass Kingfisher Blue 'Nipple Vase' by Frank Thrower

SOLD

This is a great item with a racy provenance!  Designed in 1969 by Frank Thrower for Dartington Glass the raised surface design of what look at first glance like daisy type flowers is actually based on the human nipple - hence the name 'Nipple Vase' and it was considered a highly controversial and x-rated item at the time.  It's mould blown and in their beautiful Kingfisher Blue glass colourway - this is the larger size (pattern no: FT95).  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.
