Drinking Glasses/Jugs & Pitchers

Here is a set of six very elegant tall aubergine coloured glass hi-ball tumblers.  In a fabulous straight cylindrical shape they're extremely good quality glasses made from a vibrant coloured glass.  We're estimating these to date from the 1960s or thereabouts - and are not certain which maker to attribute them to but from the look and feel think they're almost certainly Scandinavian - probably Finnish.  They would make a great gift and would be a pleasure to sip from.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

Designed and manufactured by the legendary Frank Thrower for Dartington Glass in 1968 here are three FT14 tumblers in the pale grey 'midnight' colourway.  They have an attractive hooped detail around and are very pleasing to hold - would make a nice gift for any Dartington or retro glass fan.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

The 'Calypto' pattern of stylised eucalyptus leaves and flowers was designed in 1959 by the legendary and illustrious late Michael Harris (of Mdina and Isle of Wight glass fame).  Here we have a set of six tumblers decorated in the 'Calypto' pattern and with thick gold rims - whilst they're not rare one doesn't see glasses as often as the plates and other flatware produced in this design.  Very pretty and usuable items - also a wonderful early example of the work of Michael Harris.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

Fortunately one of these lovely glasses still has it's original gold and black foil label which reads 'JH Elegance Made in England' but, apart from this information we know nothing else about the company.  However, we do know that they're decorative and usuable items with a wonderfully typically late 1960s space/bubble motif running down the sides and a textured surface pattern elsewhere - this is a set of two tumblers - one with it's original foil label.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

This is a very unusual set of six whisky tumblers since they have a ribbed and slanted base - the main photograph is showing the glasses leaning backwards - if you look at the extra photographs and, in particular, the third photo you can see this leaning effect from one side.  From the quality German glass manufacturer Schott Zwiesel, all six glasses bear their original silver and blue paper manufacturer's label.  Please see all photographs for alternative images and close-ups.

CONDITION: Gorgeous original condition with no chips, cracks or fleabites.

These are simply stunning - the photographs do not do them justice or convey the true inky blue colour of the glass which, in reality, is a much purplier hue.  They're thick and heavy at just over 300g per glass (nearly 1300g combined total weight) and ooze quality.  They're not old - we've seen modern production of these on a specialist Bristol Blue glass website where virtually identical glasses are currently retailing at £26 each plus postage - we're selling these at just £70 for the set of 4 including postage to UK destinations which equates to just £17.50 per glass.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.
