SOLD

These are absolutely charming!  Dating from the 1950s we have a set of 4 porcelain espresso cups and saucers from Retsch & Co in Wunsiedel, Bavaria.  Each cup has typically 1950s illustrations of street scenes on one side in blues, reds and yellows (the opposite sides are plain white) and featuring chic ladies wearing capri pants, circle skirts and holding parasols.  Each cup has a different illustration.  The rims of the cups and the edges of the saucers are gold-rimmed.  Absolutely gorgeous - don't miss out - where on earth would you find another set?

1960s Steuler (West Germany) Large Facette Lampbase by Cari Zalloni
1960s Steuler (West Germany) Large 'Facette' Lampbase by Cari Zalloni

SOLD

Yet another superb 1960s design by Cari Zalloni for Steuler.  From the 'Facette' range this is a large lampbase in a fabulous caramel coloured glaze.  For legal and safety reasons we can only supply lampbases unwired - ready for the customer to get rewired to their own requirements - this is a fairly quick and inexpensive job.  Steuler 'Facette' items are rare - not coming onto the market often - in several years of trading this is the first we've had!  Would look brilliant displayed in a contemporary home setting.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

1960s Steuler (West Germany) Large Zyklon Vase by Cari Zalloni
1960s Steuler (West Germany) Large 'Zyklon' Vase by Cari Zalloni

This is the largest Zyklon vase we've ever seen at 29cm and think it might well be the largest they made.  Designed by Cari Zalloni for Steuler in the 1960s - it's decorated in a fantastic red high gloss glaze with the  Zyklon 'bullseye' pattern to front and back.  These are fantastic quality, highly collectable items and don't come on the market frequently and, at this size, it's pretty rare too!  Marked to the base with the Steuler factory symbol and '195/30'.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

1960s West German Four Disk Pottery Wall Hanging
1960s West German Four Disk Pottery Wall Hanging

SOLD

They don't come much funkier than this that's for sure!  A wonderful four disk pottery wall hanging dating from the late 1960s and undoubtedly West German - quite probably from one of the quality potteries - perhaps Ruscha or Schaffenacker judging from the wonderfully colourful glazes.  Consisting of four disks of equal size, the base disks made from a rough textured matt brown clay decorated with high gloss brown glazed balls and bright orange circular glazed cups.  All threaded together with a piece of leather stringing.  Hand marked to the underside of the last disk with the initials 'HT'.  Fabulous!

1950s Villeroy & Boch (Luxembourg) Handled Dish (Dark Blue Design)
1950s Villeroy & Boch (Luxembourg) Handled Dish (Dark Blue Design)

SOLD

Dating from the late 1950s or thereabouts here is a fabulous handled dish (to be used for nibbles or bon-bons I suspect - I'm fairly certain it's not a candleholder because there's no recess and the decoration would be obscured by the candle).  I think these dishes are fabulous - we originally had five available in different colours for sale individually - this one has a lovely blue and black design.  Impressed to the base with 'Villeroy & Boch Made in Luxembourg' however the impression has been infilled with glaze and is virtually impossible to read on this particular dish but is much clearer on some of the other dishes.

1960s Carstens (Austria) Blue Lava Vase
1960s Carstens (Austria) Blue Lava Vase

SOLD

Dating from the 1960s or thereabouts here is a very decorative little ceramic vase from the West German ceramics manufacturer, Carstens.  For a time Carstens used the Goldscheider factory in Austria to produce some of their items which is why some, like this, are marked with Austria to the base and not West Germany.  Glazed with patches of blue and green with a dark lava glaze over the top.  Marked to the base with '1273-13 MADE IN AUSTRIA'.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

1960s Sgrafo Porzellan (West Germany) Abstract Vase
1960s Sgrafo Porzellan (West Germany) Abstract Vase

What a superb vase from Sgrafo Porzellan - in a seriously funky shape of four extended square tubes - it reminds me of a sea-coral.  Glazed in a neutral stone colour over the top of which has been dripped a dark brown glaze.  These are highly collectable and not often on the market.  Marked to the base with the Sgrafo stamp and the numbers '2019'.  Please see all photographs for additional views and close-ups.

Rare 1960s Otto Keramik (West Germany) Red and Black Lava Glazed Vase
Rare 1960s Otto Keramik (West Germany) Red and Black Lava Glazed Vase

Dating from the 1960s here is a fantastic large (9.5 inches in height) lava glazed vase from Otto Keramik designed by the legendary Otto Gerharz and Kurt Tschorner.   Fully hand-made - very few would have been produced and this is therefore an extremely rare and desirable vase.  It looks incredible on display - this is the vase that pretty much epitomises the term 'Fat Lava'.  With a red drippy base topped off with thick bubbly black lava, the interior a pale turquoise glaze and with the customary felt base (blue).  Groovy!  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

Rare HUGE 1960s Otto Keramik (West Germany) Red and Black Lava Glazed Floor Vase
Rare HUGE 1960s Otto Keramik (West Germany) Red and Black Lava Glazed Floor Vase

Dating from the 1960s here is an incredible lava glazed floor vase from Otto Keramik designed by the legendary Otto Gerharz and Kurt Tschorner.  This matches the vase above however at 19 inches it's almost twice the height and weighs a staggering 6470g!  I've personally never seen such a huge piece of Otto Keramik - this is, in my opinion, the Big Daddy of Fat Lava!  Fully hand-made, as above, very few would have been produced which, combined with its size, makes this an extremely rare and desirable vase.  It looks breathtaking on display - with a red drippy gloss glazed base topped off with chunky, bubbly black lava and a dark blue glazed interior.  Someone has at some point picked off the felt that would have been on the base (presumably to see if the vase was marked in any way and not realising that the felt was an original feature).   Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

SOLD

This is unbelievably fabulous and one of our current favourite pieces of West German ceramics, a 1960's pottery vase from Dumler & Breiden in the 'Konstanza' series.  In a crazy shape and glazed in bright orange and purple Verner Panton inspired colours with orange circles and squiggly lava lines this looks simply amazing on display and is a shape and colourway that doesn't crop up on the market that frequently.  Marked to the base with the D&B crossed swords and '199-16' (the shape number and size in centimetres).  This is a top quality retro item - don't miss out!  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

1950s Marschner Kunsttopferei (West Germany) Pair of Striped Vases
1950s Marschner Kunsttopferei (West Germany) Pair of Striped Vases

Dating from the 1950s here is an extremely attractive pair of vases designed by Richard Marschner for Marschner Kunsttopferei.  In smooth to the touch and organic forms, we have the 651 and the 653 shapes (I'm on the lookout for the 652) decorated with a beautifully simple striped design on a pale grey ground - really nice decorative items.  Fully marked to the bases.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

Dating from 1962 here is a brilliant ceramic vase from the 'Atelier' range by Heinz Siery for Carstens Tonnieshof.  In an iconic shape (hence the UFO name) and with a shiny blue glaze to the top, a band of blue and white lava glaze to the central band and a grey/black lava glaze to the lower section.  This is an extremely decorative piece that looks seriously funky on display.  Marked to the base with the shape and size number plus W. Germany however the lava glaze has covered and infilled the marks so they are illegible.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

SIZE:  Height 6.5in/16.5cm    Weight 505g

CONDITION:  Good original condition - there is a very shallow oyster flake of glaze loss to the bottom rim (shown in the extra photographs) but otherwise no chips, cracks or hairlines.
