Iittala (Finland) Large 'Savoy' Vase by Alvar Aalto

A large clear glass 'Savoy' vase designed originally in 1936 by Alvar Aalto for Iittala (Finland) and still in production today. These are fabulous pieces of design - a curvy shape way ahead of it's time, made from thick clear glass - fabulous! We can't be certain of the production date of this piece but would suggest that since it bears a plastic 'Iittala' manufacturer's sticker it's most likely to be from sometime in the last 20 years or thereabouts. Acid etched with the designers name to the inside of the base - see photos.

1975-1984 Iittala (Finland) 'Arnica' Vase by Tapio Wirkkala

Designed by Tapio Wirkkala for Iittala (Finland) the 'Arnica' vase came in two shapes - this one and a shorter squatter version - and was in production from 1975 to 1984. With a fabulous icy-textured effect to the outside of the glass it's a great example of the work of the big Finnish designers at that time. A really attractive piece of Scandinavian glass.

Dating from 1970 here is a fabulous mould blown 'Kasperi' clear glass vase designed by Erkkitapio Siiroinen. These come in various colours and sizes - this is the medium size. Fully signed to the base with 'Riihmaen Lasi Oy E T Siiroinen'.
SIZE: Height 8in/20cm
CONDITION: There is a chip/small hole in the glass to one of the 'crosses'. Due to the nature of the glass and the design the damage is extremely hard to see and virtually impossible to photograph but nevertheless is there. It doesn't detract in my opinion from the overall display impact of the piece but has been fully reflected in the asking price.

Dating from 1969 and inspired by the moon landings here is a simply wonderful 'Apollo' lamp/tealight holder designed by Tamara Aladin for the Riihimaki Riihimaen Lasi glassworks in Finland. It consists of two separate pieces - a clear glass base and a red glass shade. It's brilliant!

We're particularly keen fans of the work of Kaj Franck - such a talented man designing for a variety of fields and in many different mediums. Here we have a small purple mould blown glass vase he designed for Nuutajärvi (Finland) and in production from 1954 to 1957. This is the smallest of the three sizes in the range. Unsigned.

Dating from between 1968 and 1975 here is a fabulous large 'Kleopatra' jug designed by Tamara Aladin for the Riihimaki Riihimaen Lasi glassworks in Finland. This range comprised of approximately 13 different shapes and sizes in amber, ruby and green glass with clear handles - this is a particularly large example and is one of the largest sizes in the range. A very attractive and worthy addition to any retro glass collection.

A clear moulded/pressed glass 'Graponia' flask designed by Nanny Still in the 1960s for the Finnish glassworks Riihimaen. With it's original cork (stuck fast - probably never having been removed) and still bearing it's gold foil 'Riihimaen Lasi Made in Finland' sticker to the neck, this is a nice original item.
