1950s Italian Pottery Leaf-Shaped Trinket/Bon Bon Dish
1950s Italian Pottery Leaf-Shaped Trinket/Bon Bon Dish

What a fabulous piece of 1950s Italian pottery - a small leaf-shaped trinket/bon-bon dish decorated with a stylish black and white design.  It's virtually impossible to pin these types of Italian pottery down to a particular factory - marked simply to the base with '507 ITALY'.

1960s Ceramica di Milano (Italy) Large Lidded Trinket Box
1960s Ceramica di Milano (Italy) Large Lidded Trinket Box

SOLD

I adore mid-20th century Italian pottery - especially the production from Ceramica di Milano and I think it's obvious why, they're so decorative.  We've sold various vases and pots from them over the years - always featuring charming illustrations of very pretty and typically 1960s girls - often surrounded by sponged borders in pastel colours (pale blue, lilac or pink usually).  This is quite a large pot - circular with a decorated lid with a pink border that would have been made to sit on a lady's dressing table - perhaps to hold loose powder and a puff or to put jewellery and small trinkets in.  It would make a charming and original gift.  Fully marked to the base.

1960s Ceramica di Milano (Italy) Lidded Powder Box

SOLD

I adore mid-20th century Italian pottery - especially the production from Ceramica di Milano and I think it's obvious why, they're so decorative.  This little pot has an unusual shaped lid and would have been made to hold loose powder and a small powder puff on a lady's dressing table - probably as part of a set.  It would make a charming and original gift.  Fully marked to the base.

1960s Ceramica di Milano (Italy) Small Lidded Trinket Box

SOLD

I adore mid-20th century Italian pottery - especially the production from Ceramica di Milano and I think it's obvious why, they're so decorative.  This little pot (and I mean little - it's tiny) takes a slightly triangular form and would have been made to hold trinkets or keepsakes on a lady's dressing table - probably as part of a set.  It would make a charming and original gift.  Fully marked to the base.

1960s Bitossi Pottery (Italy) Blue & White Waisted Vase

SOLD

A very attractive piece of Bitossi and slightly unusual in having a white glazed band with a sgraffito design in between the more customary Rimini Blu glaze to the top and bottom.  A very decorative piece that sits beautifully in both contemporary and retro-inspired interiors.

1960s Bitossi Pottery (Italy) Elephant Moneybox
1960s Bitossi Pottery (Italy) Elephant Moneybox

SOLD

This has now taken the top spot amongst my favourite 1960s Bitossi items!  A simply gorgeous elephant moneybox decorated with sgraffito lines and applied disks glazed in the Rimini Blu colourway - this one in the slightly darker earlier glaze.  We've sold all sorts of vintage Bitossi animals but never an elephant - don't miss out, this one's fab!  Marked by hand to the underside '639 Italy'.

Bitossi Pottery (Italy) Candlestick/Candle Holder
Bitossi Pottery (Italy) Candlestick/Candle Holder

1960s Bitossi (Italy) Rimini Blu Large Bottle Vase
1960s Bitossi (Italy) Rimini Blu Large Bottle Vase

SOLD

The Italian company Bitossi have produced some fabulous art pottery during the last 50 years and here is a great example.  A large bottle vase circa 1960s in the characteristic Bitossi clay and glazes - dark brown bands interspersed with an impressed repeating pattern in the Rimini Blu colour.  Marked to the base with a handwritten 'B68/25 Italy' in black - the 'B68' we think is either the shape number or possibly the year of production and the '/25' relates to the size (this piece is 25cm tall).  An impressive addition to any retro ceramics collection.

1960s Italian Pottery Small Oval Trinket/Bon-Bon Dish
1960s Italian Pottery Small Oval Trinket/Bon-Bon Dish

SOLD

Another great piece of Italian pottery from the 1960s - a small oval trinket/bon-bon dish decorated with a funky looking girl similar to the production from the Republic of San Marino at the same time although not from that region I suspect.  It has many features in common with the leather backed ashtray we also have for sale currently - and other pieces we've sold in the past.  I haven't yet been able to pin this type of pottery down to a maker or region.

1960s Sestri Levante Pottery (Italy) Glazed Fishes Vase
1960s Sestri Levante Pottery (Italy) Glazed 'Fishes' Vase

SOLD

I adore this fabulous little vase!  With a groovy drippy matt black lava glaze to the top and bottom and in between colourful gloss-glazed decorations depicting fish and seaweed (different fish and colours to two sides).  Marked to the bottom 'Sestri Levante' which is a town in the province of Genoa - this vase was most likely produced by a local pottery and sold to the burgeoning tourist trade at the time.

1960s/70s Bertoncello (Italy) Large Stylised Vase
1960s/70s Bertoncello (Italy) Large Stylised Vase

SOLD

This is brilliant - a large vase by the Italian ceramics manufacturer Bertoncello dating from the 1960s or thereabouts.  In a curvy and organic shape with a hole to the top for the flower stems and glazed in cream and brown matt glazes it's a striking piece that looks fabulous on display with other retro Italian ceramics and also sits very nicely with the Fat Lava West German ceramics of the same period.  A truly iconic piece of retro Italian pottery - unmarked to the base other than the numbers '887'.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

1960s Ceramica Lombarda (Italy) Lidded Trinket Box

SOLD

I adore mid-20th century Italian pottery - especially this kind of production more usually associated with Ceramica di Milano (this is by Ceramica Lombarda).  We've sold various items from them over the years - always featuring charming illustrations of very pretty and typically 1960s girls - often surrounded by sponged grounds in pastel colours.  This is a large lidded pot decorated not only to the lid but more unusually with a different girl design around the outside of the base (these are more often than not left plain white).  Made to sit on a lady's dressing table to put jewellery and small trinkets in.  It would make a charming and original gift.  Fully marked to the base.

1960s Bitossi/Raymor Large Brown & Orange Square Ashtray
1960's Bitossi/Raymor Large Brown & Orange Square Ashtray

SOLD

This is the most impressive and funkiest pottery ashtray we've found so far - it's very large and heavy and we love the way the brown, almost wooden effect to the glaze around the rim complements the incredible vibrant orange and yellow glazes of the bowl.  We're estimating this piece to have been manufactured by either Bitossi or Raymor during the 1960's (it is stamped very clearly to the base with 'ITALY').  The rim has impressed 'scrolls' plus cigarette rests to two sides and the bowl is impressed with a flower pattern.  This is a fab ashtray that looks incredible on display - we'd suggest it was also fairly unusual in both colour and style having not seen any others (yet!) and would make a very decorative addition to any retro ceramics collection.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.
