c: 1972 Mdina (Malta) Rare Amethyst Strapped Cylindrical Vase, Signed
c: 1972 Mdina (Malta) Rare Amethyst Strapped Cylindrical Vase, Signed

SOLD

This is an extremely unusual combination of colours for Mdina, more usually known for their meditteranean inspired shades of blue and turquoise - this particular vase, however, is a vibrant purple glass (known as amethyst) with yellowy veins and vibrant blue running through with amethyst strapping to the outside.  It's a fabulous piece in a tall cylindrical shape - again a rare shape for Mdina and although signed, which dates this to after Michael Harris left, it's still an early piece dating from the early 1970's.  An absolute must-have for any Mdina collection.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

This is a beautiful example of Mdina's 'textural' range of glass which went into production in the mid 1970s.  In their trademark palette of meditteranean inspired shades of blue, turquoise and greeny/yellow - it's a fabulous piece in a tall cylindrical shape, a reasonably rare shape for Mdina.  An absolute must-have for any Mdina collection.  Unsigned.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

c: 1970's Mdina (Malta) Brown/Orange Swirly Vase with Random Strapping and Applied Prunt

SOLD

This is a fantastic and relatively unusual large Mdina vase - again an early piece circa early 1970s.  It is tall and has a lovely flared rim, is made from swirly clear, brown and orange glass with unusual flashes of pale blue glass (the base in particular) and has random strapping around the outside. It also bears an applied prunt stamped with an 'M'.  This is an extremely decorative piece of retro glass and a must for the Mdina collector.  Unsigned with a flat polished base.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

1969 Mdina (Malta) Rare Large Carafe with Maltese Cross Applied Prunt
1969 Mdina (Malta) Rare Large Carafe with Maltese Cross Applied Prunt

SOLD

This is a very rare piece of early Mdina - both in terms of shape, which is a very tall carafe (there are lots of bottles about but very few carafes, I've not seen any others in this exact shape yet) and in the early colour palate of translucent greens, blues and yellows.  We can date this piece very accurately to 1969 because of it's polished pontil - which was only done for a very short period at that time and also because of the applied lozenge of glass to the front impressed with the Maltese cross - another early feature.  This is a truly fantastic piece that would grace any Mdina/Maltese glass collection.  An absolute must-have.  Unsigned with a flat base and polished pontil.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

Here we have another nice early piece of Mdina dating from 1969 when Michael Harris was still there.  We can be fairly confident of the date since it has a polished pontil which was an early feature and only done for a short period.  In a beautiful blue outer colour with a golden bubbly inner layer which shows at the rim this takes an unusual flattened globe form - a very decorative and unusual piece of early Mdina.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

Mdina (Malta) Orange Glass Vase with applied Random Turquoise Strapping

Mdina (Malta) Tortoiseshell Cylindrical Glass Vase

We particularly love this type of dark brown tortoiseshell glass from Mdina - it's so rich and deep with the swirly veined effect in a rich palette of colours it looks amazing on display.  In a tall cylindrical shape - the glass is thick and heavy and it has a flat polished base (unsigned) and dates to around 1970 whilst Michael Harris was still there before he left to set up the Isle of Wight Glassworks.  This is an impressive piece of early Mdina.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.
