Other British Ceramics

Retro Ceramics - British - Other British Ceramics (5 items)
There are so many small and/or relatively unknown British potteries producing items that fit so well within our brief that we simply must include them at Pips Trip. This is the section you'll find them. Some companies we've never heard of, others we have heard of but only rarely come across their items - some things aren't even marked. So this is a great section for all those pieces of crazy, British retro/vintage ceramics that we can't attribute or only have a very few pieces of - it makes for very interesting browsing. Each piece is chosen with the same criteria for inclusion as every other piece. We look at the shape, colour, style, technique, decorative appeal and, most importantly, quality. We only choose pieces we like - the funkier the better and whilst we may not know much about them we know they belong here in Pips Trip.

code: BURLINGTONA1
1956 Denby 'Burlington' Skittle Vase by Albert and Glyn Colledge
£60.00 (email for availability)

This is a fabulous stoneware vase from the 1956 Burlington range by Denby.  A family collaboration, Albert Colledge designed the shapes (there are several different shapes and sizes in this range) in this case a large skittle vase with horizontal ribbing, whilst his son Glyn provided the distinctive sliptrailed decoration.  This black and white version is the earliest production with pale and pastel colours coming a little later.  Simple, elegant and in lovely original condition.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.

From the Langley Pottery (taken over by Denby in the late 1950's) here is an extremely attractive and very useable rectangular oven dish possibly designed by the legendary ceramics designer, Glyn Colledge (I will need to conduct further research to confirm this or otherwise).  Dating from the late 1970s or thereabouts it's stamped to the base with their windmill symbol and the words 'LANGLEY, Made in England'.  Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups.
