1970's Boxed Set of Four Betterware (England) Plastic Soup Bowls, Lids, Spoons and Trays |
For anyone into original plastic items from the 1970's this set is fabulous. The colour - you either love it or hate it but avocado green was so typical of the period, then there's the fact that all items are boxed and in totally unused mint condition - the boxes themselves so brilliantly representative of the period. This is a set of four matching soup bowls, with lids, spoons and trays (which have an indent for the bowl to sit in without moving) - I've put together one complete set to the front of the photograph. The boxes, typically representative of 1970's design, are marked with 'Betterware Products Ltd, Romford, Essex, England'. What more can I say about these other than they're groovy baby! 1960's Carlton Ware Flower Power Salt & Pepper Set |
These are great - so 1960's flower-power - here is a salt and pepper set from Carlton Ware in an unusual shape with flat multi-coloured flower shaped tops in yellow, orange, red, pink and purple. They look brilliant on display and sit very well with other brightly coloured items from the same period. We're not sure at the moment who designed them - it's possible they're by Vivienne Brennan but we've nothing concrete to go on other than the general style and colours used so this is a suggestion at the moment and not a positive attribution. Marked to the bases with the Carlton Ware script backstamp saying 'Carlton Ware, Made in England' and still bearing their original white plastic stoppers. Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups. SIZE: Height 5in/12.5cm Combined Weight 372g

1960's 'The Daily Grind' Ceramic Coffee Container with Wooden Lid |

We have a ceramic coffee container with the words 'The Daily Grind' to the front in stylised psychedelic writing with a coffee grinder to the centre all on a white ground. It has it's original wooden lid which is a little worn and shabby but is nevertheless original. This looks fab on display and would make a great addition to a retro inspired kitchen. Hornsea Pottery Style Gourd Shaped Salt & Pepper Set |
SOLD Dating from the 1960s or thereabouts here's what I'm describing as Hornsea 'style' because although they're reminiscent of the Clappison designed Gourd shaped cruets Hornsea produced they're not identical and I have a feeling they may be by the Fulham Pottery in London. Made from white pottery with dark green handpainted stripes and with interestingly sloped tops they're very pretty and extremely tactile. Unmarked to the bases but still bearing their original stoppers. Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups. 1960's Hornsea Pottery Blue & White Salt & Pepper Set |
Dating from the 1960's and from the famous English pottery, Hornsea, here is a wonderful salt and pepper set in a fabulous 'cut-out' type pattern in pale blue and white with a matching blue coloured tray for them both to sit on almost certainly designed by the legendary John Clappison. Tall and elegantly tapering to the top and still bearing their original rubber stoppers the salt and pepper pots are not marked to the bases, neither is the base however they are unmistakeably Hornsea production. I don't believe these have ever been used - they're in excellent condition and, with many salt and pepper pots that have been used you find the holes chipped from where things have been prodded into them over the years (usually a fork prong). In this instance not only are the holes in pristine condition they are also rather too large for use - the salt pot in particular has a very large hole that would allow far too much salt out - this may well be the reason for their survival in such amazing condition. They simply weren't practical to be used everyday and have been safely displayed instead. Please see all photographs for alternative views and close-ups. In their original plastic packaging and still bearing their 'Made in Finland I' red stickers these would be a fabulous addition to any retro Scandinavian glass collection. Here is a pair of fantastic quality Finnish blue glass tumblers designed in 1958 by Kaj Franck for Iittala (marked on the bases).
