SOLD From the Briglin Pottery (London) here is a very unusual set of two small ornamental mushrooms - a typical theme of the period. One small with the typical dark brown Briglin glaze and the other larger with the Briglin creamy glaze with light brown spots. It's impossible to tell from the photograph just how dinky this is (under 2 inches in length!). The same date (1970's) and design as the moneybox but without the slit on the top here is a brilliant miniature Dougall figurine from the Magic Roundabout children's TV series. It's a fabulously sweet little piece of pottery with the typical Briglin rough surface texture to represent Dougall's luxurious fur and a white glaze to his cheeky face peeking out at the front. SOLD From Buchan Pottery in Scotland, and dating to pre-1971 which is when Buchan ceased production of Portobello items, here is a fabulous large stoppered decanter decorated in their well-known Thistle pattern. Made from stonewear and hand painted with thistles, flowers and leaves this is an extremely attractive item. With a grey/pale blue coloured glazed ground with the main thistle decoration to one side and a smaller design of bluebells to the other it is immediately identifiable as Buchan - it is also fully marked to the base with 'BUCHAN Portobello Scotland, Finest Stoneware 230 26 2 9 Made in Scotland'. SOLD These are brilliant and pretty rare - both in terms of shape and, in this case, the pattern. Designed by Vivienne Brennan and made by Carlton Ware and dating from the 1970's or thereabouts here is a bug-eyed owl moneybox in the 'aztec' design transfer print to the front and back. These bug-eyed moneyboxes came in various shapes, frogs for example, and several different patterns - as mentioned earlier, this particular pattern is relatively unusual and highly sought after. SOLD These are brilliant - from Carlton Ware and dating from 1970 is this wonderful salt and pepper set. Formed from two semi-spherical pieces that fit together to form a globe and with the insides decorated with a groovy stylised fish design in black. These also came in white, this set is a dark orange, they are relatively rare and becoming highly sought after. Still with their original plastic stoppers and marked to the bases 'Made in England' - this range generally weren't stamped with Carlton Ware but have been confirmed positively as Carlton Ware production. These are great - so 1960's flower-power - here is a salt and pepper set from Carlton Ware in an unusual shape with flat multi-coloured flower shaped tops in yellow, orange, red, pink and purple. They look brilliant on display and sit very well with other brightly coloured items from the same period. We're not sure at the moment who designed them - it's possible they're by Vivienne Brennan but we've nothing concrete to go on other than the general style and colours used so this is a suggestion at the moment and not a positive attribution. Marked to the bases with the Carlton Ware script backstamp saying 'Carlton Ware, Made in England' and still bearing their original white plastic stoppers. 1970's Eschenbach (Germany) Porcelain Lidded Bowl |

Dating from the 1970's or thereabouts here is a fabulous porcelain lidded dish - perhaps a sugar bowl - from the German porcelain manufacturer Eschenbach. In a bright white porcelain in an unusual shape it has a brown glazed band around the side with white lozenge shaped gaps in which there are alternate gold and brown patterns with a tiny central flower motif. The lid is also glazed brown with a white lozenge shaped handle. It's a really unusual, decorative and very fine quality piece of retro Bavarian porcelain. This is brilliant - the design to the front so typically late 1960's/early 1970's. We have a ceramic coffee container with the words 'The Daily Grind' to the front in stylised psychedelic writing with a coffee grinder to the centre all on a white ground. It has it's original wooden lid which is a little worn and shabby but is nevertheless original. This looks fab on display and would make a great addition to a retro inspired kitchen. SOLD Dating from between 1961 and 1971 (we can be specific about this because of the backstamp) here is a lovely porcelain vase from the German porcelain manufacturer Gerold Porzellan, this was originally made for export into communist countries. In a bright white glazed porcelain in a retro waisted shape it has a modernist geometric pattern repeated all around in relief. 1964-65 Hornsea Pottery 'Cascade' Anvil Vase by John Clappison |

SOLD Here is a large Hornsea Pottery anvil shaped vase (with original coated wire frog insert) from the 'Cascade' range designed by the legendary John Clappison and manufactured for a very short period from 1964 to 1965. In a highly collectable shape it's decorated to the lower section with a very dark blue irridescent type oil glaze and towards the rim is a fabulous pale blue glaze applied to give a drippy effect - this continues for an inch or two inside the rim. It has a lovely high gloss finish overall and is an extremely decorative item which would be a valuable addition to any Hornsea or studio pottery collection. SOLD The Lotus Pottery was set up in 1958 by Michael and Elizabeth Skipworth in the village of Stoke Gabriel in Devon and was famous during the 1960's and 1970's for their green daisy range of vases and stylised animals - most notably bulls. This is a rare dark glazed stylised bird posy vase - the glaze is a difficult to describe dark brown/black colour with a very slightly irridescent sheen - I've not seen another Lotus vase like it in this shape or colour - this is a very unusual and extremely sweet item of retro studio pottery. This is a very attractive and relatively unusual Royal Worcester/Palissy ceramic storage container. The pattern called 'Bergen' consists of brilliant stylised flowers and leaves in various vibrant colours on a white ground with a green band to the base and still with it's original wooden lid (slightly shabby but perfectly acceptable). Designed in 1957 by Enid Seeney for the Ridgway Potteries Ltd (Staffordshire) the 'Homemaker' range of tablewear was manufactured especially for sale through the Woolworth's chain of retail outlets. With a white ground and decorated with black stylised/kitsch images of household items - lamps, tables, chairs - these are rapidly becoming highly sought after items. Although the 'Homemaker' range had a relatively long production run, these particular plates are dated 1962 within the backstamp so are in fact fairly early examples.
