This is an extremely pretty Italian glass vase. From the Oball glassmakers in Murano, Italy (still bearing the plastic manufacturer's label which reads 'Oball Vetreria Artistica, Murano'). Made from a vibrant pink glass thickly encased in clear with a thin line of black glass running through the clear section and with a cut/tonged rim. With a flat polished (unsigned) base. This is a gorgeous purple glass paperweight from Caithness Glass who are, quite rightly, famed for their amazing and highly collectable paperweights as well as their other glassware. This has a flat 'window' showing a central bubble surrounded by purple, green and white swirls and was designed by Helen MacDonald - this particular design called 'Vortice' came in various other colours and was retired in 1999. This is another very funky piece of cased glass from Italy and dating from the 1970's or thereabouts. In a bright yellow glass with a white inner this is a very decorative piece of vintage Italian glass that looks fabulous on display. These are often wrongly described as made by the Danish glass company Holmegaard however these are much lighter in weight than their Danish counterparts. SOLDDesigned in 1951 by Arthur Percy for the Swedish glassmaker, Gullaskruf, and in production until 1965 here is a bottle vase in a particularly vibrant shade of blue glass. These came in a number of different colours and sizes - this one is the smallest in the range at 9.75in/24.5cm (we also have for sale the largest in the range at 19in/48cm - see above). With a bulbous base and an attenuated flared neck these look very pretty on display and look fabulous with other brightly coloured glass of the same period. Designed in 1957 by the legendary late Timo Sarpaneva here is a brilliant boxed set of 6 'Tsaikka' mould blown-metal mounted glasses. Although the glasses themselves were designed in 1957 and in production until 1977 the metal mounts didn't go into production until 1964 so we can date this particular set to between 1964 and 1977. In their original plastic packaging and still bearing their 'Made in Finland I' red stickers these would be a fabulous addition to any retro Scandinavian glass collection. Liskeard Glass in Cornwall, now known as Merlin Glass, employed ex-Whitefriars employees which would probably explain the similarities to the Whitefriars knobbly range. In a very vibrant shade of glass and with the Liskeard Glass LG monogram to the base this is a thick and chunky piece of retro glass that looks brilliant on display. This is another lovely early piece of Mdina circa 1970 - an Inside Out vase bearing a nice early feature, the applied prunt stamped with the Maltese cross. These particular vases were designed by Michael Harris and only in production whilst he was still at the Mdina glassworks. This one is particularly thick and heavy and is made from very swirly turquoise, clear and yellow glass to the outside and a vibrant yellow to the inside - the typical and trademark early palate of Mdina colours. SOLD This is a relatively unusual combination of colours for Mdina, more usually known for their meditteranean inspired shades of blue and turquoise. This vase, however, is a vibrant orange glass with thick turquoise trails/strapping randomly applied around the outside - it's a very pretty piece that catches and reflects the light beautifully. This is a breathtaking vase designed by the legendary Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri D'Arte (Murano) where he was the artistic director from the late 1930's up until 1963. This vase was was exhibited at the 1958 World Fair in Brussels and still bears its original fair label which says 'ARTE NUOVA MURANO, GRAND PRIZE, GENUINE VENETIAN GLASS, World Fair Brussels 1958'. Made from a vibrant green and pale yellow glass in a superb organic shape - the rim tapering elegantly to a smooth rounded opening - it's an extremely tactile item and all in all, is an important piece of Italian glass from a highly respected and sought after designer. SOLD This is spectacular - a beautiful Murano/Sommerso 'Geode' bowl in amber and green glass thickly encased in clear. As you can see it catches the light beautifully - this piece displays especially well if positioned near a light source; real or artificial. It's heavy and tactile - the lovely round bowl contrasting well against the hard sharp line of the rim. In my opinion this is Italian glass at it's very best, a real collector's piece.
